INCONEL® alloy 718 is a high - strength, corrosion - resistant nickel - chromium material. Similar to its sister alloy 625,
Inconel 718 is an age - hardened version of alloy 625. Ageing (or precipitation hardening) produces precipitates within
the microstructure t hat pin the metal's grains in place. As a result, the material typically becomes significantly
stronger. Service temperatures range from - 196°C to 700°C (- 321°F to 1.300°F). Its welding characteristics, especially
its resistance to post - weld cracking, are outstanding. Good tensile, fatigue, creep, and rupture strengths have led to its
use in a wide range of applications. The alloy is utilised in jet engines, liquid - fuelled rockets, rings, casings, and metal
parts for aircraft and land - based gas turbine engi nes, cryogenic tankage, and high - temperature fasteners. INCONEL
718 is also employed in the oil and gas drilling and production industries due to its high strength and resistance to
chlorides, stress corrosion, and sulphide stress cracking. Parts can be ma chined, welded, shot - peened, polished, and
coated.
